Buongiorno, new friends, and welcome to Sparkles and Crumbs!
My name is Miss Caroline Cakewise, and this site is a little bit like my online scrapbook. It's a scrumptious hodgepodge of all the things that inspire me: true love, high adventure and making magic out of a handful of daydreams. You can click on the links below to read some of my favourite posts so far, and you have almost four years' {crikey!} worth of ramblings to explore!
I think that life should be full of hot chocolate, champagne, dresses out of dreams, dancing in the moonlight, May Balls, marzipan for breakfast, old Audrey Hepburn movies, Marilyn Monroe, macaroons, Narnia, true love's kisses, climbing trees, flying kites, getting into scrapes in far-flung places, good books, plenty of poetry, Lush bath bombs, learning Italian, impractically high heels, and cake. Which can all be summmed up as: sparkles and crumbs! Courage, imagination and joie de vivre, darlings! And that's hopefully what you will find here. It's a place for girls with gumption and bluebirds in their hearts, who were "born to catch dragons in their dens, and pick flowers, to tell tales and laugh away the morning, to drift and dream like a lazy stream, and walk barefoot across sunshine days."
What readers of Sparkles & Crumbs say:
{These make me so happy!}
"It may be a bit presumptuous to so adore a person whom one has never met, but this Glorious Lady's posts have been known to act as balloons to buoy, shovels to dig out, glitter to transform, and even balm to soothe."
-Chesley
"Your blog is an instant pick-me-up, like a mug of hot chocolate, or a favourite old film, or a beautiful dress that fits just right :)"
-Ashma
"I found much more than I could ever hoped for. I literally burst in to tears because I couldn't believe I found something so beautiful, full of love, beauty, inspiration and poetry. I couldn't stop reading. This is amazing - you are."
-Secret Agent
"I love how you live your life like something out of an Audrey Hepburn film, you're truly making the dream happen! I think you're a living inspiration. You prove that if you always keep faith and find happiness in the little things in life then things can really turn out the way you want them to!... You're always full of the perfect amount of optimism and practical advice. I know that if I'm going through a problem you've either experiencing the same issue or have keen insight into how I can fix it. And when I don't want to think about my problems period, your blog offers a wonderful escape of beautiful atmospheric photos akin to a fairy tale and inspiring quotes."

"I have read and enjoyed your blog so much for about a year now... I relate to you so much--your love of poetry, old movies, and clothes. You have real joie de vivre, and remind me of how I want to be when I am happy and how I want to be when I am sad--instead of just being depressed. Anyway, I love your blog! You deserve some recognition."

"Dearest, throughout the course of the last year or so (which at times proved very arduous against my dwindling optimism), I've turned to your lovely Sparkles & Crumbs for inspiration, happiness, escape, or simply a feeling made up of warm fuzzies and blissful airiness. You remind me of the adventures and romantics that I want in life and that every minute of every day can be magical, and for that I thank you (: Love, Italian dreams and James Dean movies,"

"With complete sincerity: keep doing exactly what you are doing. I've been following you for quite some time now, and your blog, for me, has always been amazingly cathartic. In tough times, it's been a marvelous and magical escape that really does wonders for my soul. I'm in a point in my life where I am feeling particularly lost, and I'm struggling to find my place in this world. I've just finished university, and job prospects have been disappointing and have left me feeling immensely dejected. I can't tell you how much better I feel when I'm able to enjoy a little glimpse into your *real* life, but I also understand and feel the same yearning you have for the whimsical, the beautiful, the fleeting, and the magical. Although this may sound creepy, but I'm genuinely happy for you when I see you get a little closer to what us kindred souls dream of. You're a beautiful, intelligent, fascinating girl and you've made something beautiful here, and a thing of beauty is a joy forever."

Most of all, Sparkles & Crumbs is for my Camerado and I. In our rapscallionly schoolgirl ways, we stood for tricking our PE teachers and eating cream teas at Hampton Court instead of doing hockey, romances with Italian waiters, cocktails served with sparklers in Left Bank cafes, popping champagne and seat-dancing on the Eurostar, holding every man up to Gregory Peck's measure, a sense of the ridiculous, and escaping into your own story. That is how the Sparkles & Crumbs magic began. Long may it continue and you enjoy reading, my sweets!
