You just needed something to fill up your useless, nail-polishing, toe-polishing, rich bitch, sun-tanning days!

Ola, chicas!

A rather belated Stylish Movie Monday this week, I fear - in fact, it's technically a Stylish Movie Tuesday!

My pick this time around?

Overboard!

The other week, my compadres and I were wondering who would play each of us in the movie of our life [as one does] - and we unanimously decided that Goldie Hawn, circa Overboard, would be me down to a T! Given to glitz, glamour, over-dramatics and with a shock of big blonde hair!

She is particularly fabulous in this Eighties romcom with Kurt Russell. True, the actual plot and love story is rather distressing when you really think about it - but Ms Hawn is so hilarious you forget to be outraged!

Although she spends much of the film suffering from amnesia, dressed in hideous hicksville clothes and attempting to raise four horrifying children, her opening and ending scenes see her as Joanna Stayton, a spoilt, utterly over-the-top heiress with a speciality in withering glares!

Love the glittering gold shoulder pads!

"Now, you can see how inadequate this all is. I need new shoe racks for my shoes... And I need drawers for my lingerie... I can't keep entering all these boxes all the time..."

And how about this OUTRAGEOUS, barely-there swimsuit!

The sunglasses! The hats!

"These gnats keep landing on my wet nail polish. I guess I'm supposed to walk around with their little corpses stuck to my fingers!"

Of course, the moral of the story is that, by embracing the love of Kurt Russell and his white trash boys, Joanna [aka Annie!] becomes a much nicer person...

...But thankfully, she still wears the most wonderful, glittering golden evening gown for her grand finale! The gorgeous garment is frustratingly difficult to screencap as she does tequila shots with the crew and sweeps around the deck of the yacht, with the sequinned skirts flying behind her... You'll just have to watch it and spare a sigh for such a dress yourself!

We're gonna come together, we're gonna celebrate, we're gonna gather round, like it's your birthday

Hello, honeys!

I've been away for such a while - because there's simply been so much going on! Amidst luxuriating in this sudden English heatwave, cocktail making classes, finishing off my Masters thesis, and searching high and low for summer jobs...

I celebrated my 22nd birthday!

And I feel just like Lauren Bacall:

"I remain as vulnerable, romantic and idealistic as I was at fifteen, sitting in a movie theatre."

Let's drink to that, my dear friends!

And to dressing up for a birthday punt, plenty of cava, a visit from the camerado, scones with raspberry jam, half price cocktails and haddock, and dancing the night away!

"the people in the room the people in the street the people

hold everything dear."

What a swell party this is! What frails, what frocks! What furs, what rocks!

It's Stylish Movie Monday again!

And this week, it's time to escape into a world of Cole Porter-scored balls, Louis Armstrong-led wedding bands, the wealthy Rhode Island social whirl, and - of course - hidden cocktails bars in the library.

Yes, it's High Society!

Grace Kelly is chic and stunning as ever - whilst still managing to be hilariously funny - as the spoilt, icy socialite, divorcee and bride-to-be Tracy Lord.

My favourite ensemble? Her wonderful poolside wardrobe - a draped, Grecian-goddess-style dress, that slips off to reveal the sweetest white swimsuit!

In fact, the future Princess of Monaco doesn't put a fashion foot wrong in this film - whether it's embroidered evening gowns, Chines silk robes for her boudoir, or casual khakis for lounging around the mansion plotting...

The rest of the cast are pretty sharp dressers, too...

"Who wants to wallow in champagne?
I don't!
Who wants a supersonic plane?
I don't!
Who wants a marble swimming pool, too?
I don't!
And I don't - 'cause all I want is you!

.

But my favourite scene of all?

When Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby [such dapperly dressed gents!] help themselves to champagne from the secret library bar... I want one!!

"Have you heard?
It's in the stars,
Next July, we collide with Mars!
Well, did you evah!
What a swell party this is!"

Rather how I felt after my own swell party this weekend, folks!
