If I were a mermaid, then he was the sea

"Now is the time of our comfort and plenty
These are the days we've been working for

Nothing can touch us and nothing can harm us
No, nothing goes wrong anymore

Singing a song with your feet on the dashboard
A cigarette streaming into the night
These are the things that I want to remember
I want to remember you by

They won't come again, because love is the end
Oh no, my friend, love is the end

I took off my clothes and I ran to the ocean
Looking for somewhere to start anew

And when I was drowning in that holy water
All I could think of was you

Oh, my friend, love is the end
So best not pretend, because love is the end

And so I tread the only road
The only road I know
Nowhere to go
But home..."

I can't wait to get on the train to see The Boy again next week. In fact, after the hideous and unglamorous polyester pinstripe tabard I have to wear for scrubbing showers, I've got a definite dressed-up travelling ensemble already planned! Something like this...

Something I've noticed lately is a real change in my attitude to my style and, by extension, my body. Until very recently, I'd always assumed I had one definite 'look,' and could certainly never pull off an overtly womanly, screen-siren-esque outfit. But now, I've come to realise that I can incorporate a more grown-up, even sexy streak into how I already dress! For the first time ever this summer, I abandoned my Fifties-style onepieces for Fifties-style bikinis, and got a nicely tanned tummy! Maybe it's to do with leaving behind the teenage years and just growing up a little; maybe it's more that I've finally filled out, grown more comfortable in my body, and abandoned some of my neuroses; either way, I think something that has a lot do with it is having somebody to kiss and stroke every part of your body, and tell you that they love it!

Another thing that's been inspiring me lately is Benefit's gorgeous new fragrance, "So Hooked On Carmella." It's absolutely scrumptious, like creme brulee [thanks to the vanilla, amber, and, funnily enough, rhubarb!] and it's my new signature scent!

"When it comes to Carmella, don't ask and don't tell,
A light touch has admirers under her spell,
Her sweet sensuality no one would guess,
So exquisite, enticing...an intimate caress."

Here's how I imagine Carmella would dress for a journey on the train...

We are homesick most for the places we have never known

Hello, lovelys!

Guess where I am? Back in beloved Cambridge! Even though I have to spend my days cleaning toilets, it's truly not all bad - I have the radio to dance along too whilst I hoover! The college are even giving me a wad of reward money and a Theology prize for my summer exam results! And, excitingly, I've just chosen my room for next year [after peeking into all the rooms on every corridor I'm asked to clean...]! It was my second choice, but it is still lovely - floorspace enough to dance around, big windows letting in all the light, sizeable wardrobe space! It's funny how having your own little corner to live in can inspire you - this coming term, I really want to decorate it from top to bottom, and turn it into a true Sparkles and Crumbs space...

But how? Gala Darling brims over with ideas as usual, but can any of you, my stylish beloveds, think of more specific things to adorn a big, bare room? My head is full of different themes - fairgrounds, Paris, Old Hollywood... And then I thought: Peter Pan. Never-Never-Land. Fairy lights!

I love the idea of turning my room into my own magical little world! What do you think about hanging light-bedecked sheets over a corner to create a tent?

Daydreaming about building our own home, and what it would be like...

[But:
When I am alone,
"When I've thrown off the weight of this crazy stone ,
When I've lost all care for the things I own,
That's when I miss you, that's when I miss you, that's when I miss you,
You are my home
You are my home
And here is what I know now,
Here is what I know now,
Goes like this:
In your love, my salvation lies
In your love, my salvation lies
In your love, my salvation lies
In your love, my salvation lies
In your love, in your love, in your love."
